Leaflet publications now have custom pages and a nav bar at the top — and your publication homepage can be fully customized too!

This makes Leaflet a lot more flexible, and good for not only blogs but all kinds of simple websites!

How it works:

  • From your publication dashboard, hit 'Customize' to edit pages (theme settings live here now, too)

  • Edit your default homepage

  • Add new pages, or external links, in the nav bar

  • Hit update to publish your new layout!

What else is new: blocks & more

We changed the publication header a bit, to simplify and make room for the nav bar, as well as allow you to put the description where you want.

The 'description' field in settings is now used for page meta but not in the header; we copy as a block in your homepage by default, but you can edit, move, or delete this.

We also have two new blocks that are useful for pages!

  • Post list

    • This lists your publication posts, and is on your homepage by default, but you can move it or add elsewhere too!

    • New options — you can highlight the first post, or limit the number of recent posts displayed here (useful if putting a post list in the middle of a page)

    • You can also filter by tag; right now tags are global but we'd like to expand this to support publication-specific categories too

    • This will lazy load on scroll if you have lots of posts, so it doesn't load a super long list all at once

  • Subscribe form

    • Once you add multiple pages, the nav bar now shows a smaller subscribe button

    • We also have a new block for your subscribe form — this is at the bottom of your homepage by default, but you can move it, or add to any page or post too!

The name of the pub creator has also moved out of the header, and now shows in the post list (more like a byline); we expect many folks will also want to add an 'About' page or similar for more info, links, and other useful info about your publication!

Let's look at some examples ✨

Lots of folks are already putting this feature to great use!

leaf litter, from , has an awesome 'random link' external link in nav:

What else?

Even more ways you might use pages in Leaflet:

  • Website for a book, published serially

  • Directory / collection, with different pages for top-level areas (you could invite others as contributors too)

  • Product info, with changelog, contact page, etc.

  • Homepage for a meetup or event series (better event integration would be really cool to add here!)

  • Class blog, with students added as contributors, and syllabus and other links in nav

  • Project homepage, with blog as well as things like a manifesto or ways to get involved

  • Hyperlocal neighborhood guide

  • Personal homepage…like a link in bio, but better!

We've got some other ideas that could take the possibilities even further (nested pages? post categories?) — let us know what you think, excited to see how you use this!
